The 2012-13 season is Sarah Hodges’ 14th as the U of R’s women’s hockey head coach, having been hired as the program’s first head coach prior to the 1998-99 season. Under Hodges, the team has won one Canada West title (2001) and qualified for three CIS Championships (2001, 2002, and 2003).Three U of R players – Joell Fiddler, Arielle Schade, and Brandy West – have been named All-Canadians, while former Cougar Brandy West was named the CIS Player of the Year in 2001. At the conference level, the Cougars have had 13 different players named to Canada West all-star teams, including Fiddler, who was a first-team all-star in all five years of her eligibility. Over the program’s first 12 seasons, Hodges has guided the team to a 125-77-9-11 conference record and top-two regular-season finishes in nine of those years. Hodges has been involved with Hockey Canada over the past few seasons. In 2010-11, she lead the National U18 team to a silver medal at the World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden. In July of 2008, she was named as the head coach of the national women’s Under-22 team. She participated with the Under-22 squad as an assistant coach (2006-07) and as a video coach (2005-06), with the team winning the European Air Canada Cup championship during both of those seasons. Hodges played from 1992-96 with the NCAA’s Dartmouth University. With 75 goals and 71 assists during her four seasons with the Big Green, she ranks eighth on the school’s all-time list in points scored. During her last season in 1995-96, Hodges served as the team’s captain and was named to the All-Ivy First Team. Hodges also was an All-Ivy First Team selection in the javelin as a member of the Dartmouth Track and Field Team.
