Head Coach Jon Rempel played at the University of Manitoba from 1993-1996 where he was a three-time Academic All-Canadian. Rempel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1995 and then left the University of Manitoba to push towards a professional hockey career highlighted by a two game tryout with the Portland Pirates of the A.H.L. in 1997 - 1998. Rempel also played two and a half years in the East Coast Hockey League with the Baton Rouge KingFish before retiring after half a year in the British National League with the Slough Jets. Upon his return to the University in 1999, he completed his Bachelor of Recreation Studies, began working with Bison Sports and also continued on with his coaching career that includes one year as an assistant with the Eastman Selects of the Manitoba AAA Midget League, one year as an assistant with the Winnipeg South Blues of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and one year as an assistant with the University of Manitoba Women’s Hockey Team. In 2005-2006 he earned his NCCP High Performance 1 (Advanced 1) certification. Entering the 2011-12 season, Rempel will be at the helm of the Manitoba Bisons women’s hockey program for an eighth season. Over his tenure, Rempel has been named Canada West Coach of the Year twice (2004-2005), (2006-2007) and has led the Bisons to seven straight Canada West Finals, and five trips to the National Championships in seven years as the Head Coach at Manitoba. In those five prior trips to the Nationals, the Bisons have won bronze three medals Rempel also guided the program to their first-ever Canada West Championship (2008-09 season) title with a thrilling three game series win at Alberta over the defending conference champion Alberta Pandas on March 15/09. He was head coach when the team earned their second conference title in 2010-11 season with a historic two game playoff series sweep at the University of Alberta - the first team to sweep the Alberta Pandas in a conference final at Clare Drake Arena during the 14 years of their women’s hockey program. Coach Rempel was also an assistant with the Under 18 provincial team that won bronze at the 2007 Under-18 National Championships in Kitchener. In addition, Rempel was the Head Coach of Team Manitoba at U-18 Nationals in Surrey (finished fourth place) in November 2009 plus he was named a Camp Coach at 2010 Hockey Canada’s U-22 Selection Camp in Toronto.
